Bio: John Bare is vice president of The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation in Atlanta. John is an executive-in-residence at Georgia Tech’s Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship and a former journalist and media consultant. John holds a Ph.D. in mass communication research from the University of North Carolina. John has taught college courses and executive education programs on evaluation and philanthropy’s role in social change and is a past member of Emory University’s Board of Visitors. He has published numerous book chapters and articles on topics ranging from international journalism training to symphony orchestra audiences to risk management. A recent article in The Foundation Review, examines the unintended consequences of the accountability movement (“Philanthropy, Evaluation, Accountability, and Social Change”). Prior to his work in philanthropy, John’s research broke new ground in the newspaper industry’s understanding of reporters’ views of the communities they cover.
