Just got back from the opening ceremony held at the RISD museum of art. Their art collection was very impressive. The evening started off at the museum by being lead up to a narrow escalator when I got off the escalator I was hit by a cerulean blue wall with 3 high school students playing in a quartet. I entered the contemporary gallery and right away I knew I was in for a treat. They had a Calder, Twonmbly, Catlett, Pollock, Hoffman, Agnes Martin, and Philip Guston just to name a few. It was wonderful and it was only the first room. I went on to see a wonderful print exhibition with a few Albect Durer what an amazing artist he was so before his time.
Next they had a small but impressive impressionism collection: Monet, Manet, Cezanne, Duffy, Renoir, Rodan (probably a Camile Cladaille). The main room where the party was happening was a salon style gallery. It was booming with some great latin jazz music. People were mingling eating, drinking dancing. Outside a public art installation called “waterfire” was on its way. In the middle of the downtown Providance River, placed a couple feet apart were cones of fire that appeared to be on the surface of the water. There were masses people walking along the river in costume, people sitting just looking at the fire and gondola boats carrying people for a intimate look. I had a great time.
