Take the Leap Day Challenge

February 28th, 2008 at 03:08pm Rebecca Borden

This peice comes by way of Julia McBride’s “Coach Julia” e-newsletter. It is too good not to share.  Julia is one of the coaches in the Personal Evolution advanced workshop of our Annual Convention.

A North Carolina teacher named Julia Scatliff O’Grady has created the Leap Day Challenge, urging readers of her blog “to take a leap during the year of the leap.” A leap can be anything you choose to pay attention to in 2008 that will make you and the world stronger as a result. O’Grady has designated Friday, February 29 as the day on which all of us who accept the challenge will set aside some time to act on our leap and to celebrate.

In many ways, this Friday is an extra day.  We won’t have another February 29th until 2012. We won’t have another Friday February 29 until 2036. Let’s make it special.  Look at your calendar right now. Set aside at least one hour tomorrow to get started on your leap. Use your first 30 minutes for reflection: Take a walk, spend time with your journal, or have lunch with a friend who is also leaping.

A leap is a big-hearted action or series of actions that is rooted in at least one your core values.  It starts with an internal shift and radiates outward. Use your reflection time to consider the significance of your leap. What does it say about who you are? Think about your leap as an expression of the beliefs you hold most dear. Use your time to come up with least one thing that you can do to get started on your leap. Then do it. The second part of the hour you’ve set aside is your time for taking action.
