Web 2.0 sounds great, but…could this be a whole new culture to many? To encourage the online conversations to have some meaningful context, and buy in from techno-phobes / hostiles (a.k.a. arts professionals who fear the world outside their discipline) they must be fully equipped to participate in not only WHAT is being said, but HOW the conversation is happening. We will need to train potential digital technology users with a lot of side-by-side show me sessions.

I think that this is very true! A lot of people don’t even understand what Facebook, let alone how communicating through those media can be different than standard media. I think we are hampered when we try to describe new media as “like this or that.”
I wish there was some sort of special session on how to teach/show older arts professionals various technologies in a non-threatening way that would be engaging to them. People’s eyes glaze over sometimes when they feel overwhelmed by new technologies and they just sort of say, oh, that’s fine, you take care of it. I’m happy taking care of it, but I want other people to feel involved in the process/product, too!
